Have you ever wondered about the origin of the Victoria Playhouse Logo?

The ‘Winged V’ is taken from the exterior sign which was created in 1984 by scenic designer David Bennett. David also carved the beautiful art nouveau vines which flank the theatre proscenium .  We had many discussions with our marketing friend and mentor Doug Hall about an appropriate image for the Playhouse and finally circled back to our beginnings—the hand carved pine ‘V’ . It stands for ‘Victoria’ … the village in which we live and work and create, and  for ‘Victory’… to survive and thrive in the arts is always a victory.

 

Today our good friend Bill Ridgway cares for this historic sign—he carefully applies a coat of varnish to the letters every year and then applies a fresh coat of paint . Thanks Bill!
